GWI 6-A "GW" MONOGRAM WITH A CIRCLE & CROSS BORDER:
This button was manufactured in either Stamped Brass or
Copper, and has Raised Letters for the Slogan, and
Raised Crosses within the Indented Border Circles. The
Size GWI 6-A is 33mm, and has an R-6 Rating. This is a
flat one-piece button with a soldered on loop shank.
Stamped boldly in the center is a large
Roman Script "GW" Monogram. The
"W" in the monogram has a
Colonial Style Swirl off the "W"
which encompasses both letters. Outside of the
monogram's flat field is a thin stamped border
Ring,
which separates the inner design, with the slogan's
narrow circling channel well. Within the
channel is the popular Slogan that was used at Washington's
inauguration ceremony, "LONG
LIVE THE PRESIDENT",
which is in all raised Roman Font capital letters upon a
stippled base.
Reaching out from the edge of the banner well is seventy
Short Rays
which are stamped in a circular pattern. This pattern
usually represents the Sun's shinning Rays. This is
followed by a small flat open field, which is then
encircled by a thin
Stippled Ring.
Circling around the button's outside edge is the unique
design of 36
Indented Circles,
which all have
Raised Crosses
within.
Cobb's notes mention that there
are three specimens known (His, Wilson's, Shurto's).~
There was one in S.H. Chapman's Parsons sale in 1914 lot
585, but unsure if it is one of the examples Cobb knew
of.~
